Why your Seiko Kinetic Watch requires a Service
If the seconds hand on your Kinetic watch is moving two seconds at a time, this is the indicator that the capacitor or battery is discharged; it requires wearing more often or requires a service. It is no use just shaking it.
If your watch stops or loses time overnight and you have been wearing all day, and you are reasonably active then it requires a service.
If you don’t wear it enough or are not active, then you should get a Charging Machine.
We can re-charge it for you, but the cost is £40.00 as it involves booking the watch in, Examining it, Charging it, Testing it, Pressure testing it, Booking it out, Packing and Posting by “Special Delivery”.
Seiko recommend having your watch serviced between two and five years, but in our experience ten years is about right for electronic watches.
Kinetic watches MUST be cleaned, due to the gas escaping out of the obsolete Capacitor over the years; this gas is trapped in the watch and will have contaminated and damaged the oils making the movement very stiff and wearing it away. It then stays in “high power mode” and uses 12 times the normal power trying to keep going; therefore your arm movement is not enough to keep it charged. It is no use just replacing the capacitor as the new Cell will only last a few weeks.
The replacement Cell for the Capacitor (Titanium Carbon Lithium Ion) is 30 times more powerful and should last at least 20 years.
We do not charge any extra for new parts fitted in your Seiko (unless damaged by someone), as only about 1 in 15 require parts, so it is swings and roundabouts and keeps it simple.
There are many people saying they will service your Kinetic for about £40, but they don't clean the movement, they only replace the capacitor, clean the case and they don't give a guarantee.
